9.1 WINDOWS
9.1.1 All habitable spaces (whether residential or non-residential),
including lobbies or corridors, shall have a lighting and ventilation
opening whose area is not less than 10% of the habitable space
floor area. And 5% for service spaces such as kitchens, bathrooms,
toilets, storerooms and staircases. (figure -17)

9.1.2 The position, size and type of windows determine the pattern ≥0.90 m
of daylight in an internal area. The daylight shall be designed to
enhance the function of spaces such as, provision of windows for
classrooms shall be at the left side and so on. In General
9.1.3 Natural ventilation and sky light openings of not less than 5% of the
floor area for industrial buildings (factories and warehouses) shall
be provided, in order to enable natural lighting to reach the deepest
point within the building area unless verified from the Authority.
9.1.4 The main staircase of the building shall be provided with
openings for lighting and ventilation in every floor level starting
from the first until the highest level with exemption to towers as
mentioned in section-13. 1.25 m
9.1.5 Height of window sills shall not be less than 0.9 meter except when
there is terrace or balcony outside the window, otherwise, balusters
with minimum height of 0.9 meter needs to be provided for safety. Kitchen
